Several years ago, Woodside’s mission changed from detention to rehabilitation of the juveniles placed in its care by the court. A dedicated staff is trying to accomplish this mission in a completely inadequate building that feels more like a jail. Working with TreanorHL, a nationally recognized justice design practice, we analyzed the very difficult site and existing buildings and proposed a new design which retains the existing gym and provides a secure but humane environment.
