BADU (BAT ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT)
HOLIDAY PARTY 2025
Every holiday season, the team at DWA does a “Yankee Swap” gift exchange. Each year is a different theme, and the gifts are exchanged at a different local venue every year. The 2025 event was held at the Onion City Chicken and Oyster Restaurant, and the theme was “Pearls, Plans, and Oysters”, which left open lots of options. Hand-crafted gifts are always encouraged, and consistent with the DWA environmental ethos, one of the gifts was a hand-crafted bathouse - the connection to the “plans” theme was its custom design, and part of the gift was the drawing. Bats need tight spaces where they can roost very densely. The tight spaces and high volume of bats keep the bathouse warm. In order to facilitate entering the bathouse, they need a ledge to grab onto, and within the house, the walls need to be grooved (see interior photos) so they can use the grooves to climb up. The interior partitions are shorter to allow for through ventilation from bottom to top. The front face is removable for future cleaning, which would need to be done with respiratory and skin protection. The infamous bat logo is expressed at the top and bottom of the back board, and it can conveniently mounted using its mounting bracket.
