01 / Our Approach

Design is about
finding balance.

We believe architecture is the integration of practical, private, public, and poetic desires into a thoughtful and unified solution.

We've intentionally remained a small practice, allowing us to maintain close relationships with our clients and bring careful attention to every detail of the design process.

Our commitment to community, nonprofit partnerships, sustainability, and meaningful design continues to guide the work we do.

Design, after all, is the art of finding a single solution to multiple desires.

Duncan Wisniewski Architecture was established in 1985 with a commitment to community architecture and sustainable design.

Led by Principals Taryn Barrett and Sam Beall, our studio works across a diverse range of projects, from residential renovations and multifamily housing to workplaces, healthcare environments, and neighborhood planning.

Through collaboration, thoughtful design, and meaningful community engagement, we continue to help shape the built environment.

04 / Architecture

Architecture
is a process,
not a formula.

DWA architectural design detail

Design is not a linear process. It is dynamic, iterative, and shaped by the continuous interaction of ideas, information, and practical considerations.

From the beginning, we consider the program, site, context, environmental performance, and long-term implications of every decision.

We believe elegant architecture emerges when artistic vision and practical realities become one.

Building for
a better future.

Passive design means proactively creating buildings that use less energy, last beyond a lifetime, and provide healthy, comfortable environments for the people who inhabit them.

Our approach emphasizes high-performance building envelopes, reduced mechanical demands, and thoughtful integration with the ecosystems and communities around us.

We believe in designing good places that prosper while minimizing their long-term environmental impact.
