The views from the penthouse out over the city, lake and church steeple across the street are so stunning that the space needs a comparable
prescence to anchor it and not pale in comparison. An eighth floor penthouse is, by nature, an isolated site and I wanted to connect to the surrounding context in a more direct way then just the view. The program was for a pied a terre for an owner who had multiple residences around the country and desired a casual, simple and elegant place in the city.

The main living space is defined by a series of birds eye maple beams that contain lighting. They provide the required gravity to anchor the space against the panoramic view. The same beams, stained with a green anneline dye with clear finished copper fittings, create a visual link to the weathered copper steeple just outside the window and therefore connect the previously isolated space to the site and surrounding context. The glass block hints at BR beyond and the bedroom,
in turn, has glass block into the master bath.
