A late winter heavy snow fall in March 2001 proved to be too much for the Teela-Wooket dining facility's old roof structure, causing a catastrophic collapse, including significant damage to the floor structure, sparing only the kitchen and food storage areas, which had been rebuilt only a few years earlier. The loss was tragic, not only because the start of a new season was only weeks away, but because the old structure of log trusses was a unique gathering place for the camp.
With its recent construction and value, maintaining the existing kitchen and associated facilities was a given, as was keeping the historic grand fireplace that was central to the old lodge. Creating a new facility while recalling elements of the old was the guiding principle, manifested through the use of locally sawn timbers and pine paneling, large roof overhangs, and exterior materials common to the camp. Full insulation and finished interiors allow for extended seasonal use for parties and receptions.
