1986 South Burlington, VT
1,100 SF Airport Shuttle Service. $170K
Principal: Michael Wisniewski
As the Burlington International Airport grew, on site parking became inadequate. This private service needed a simple structure for customers to drop off car, check in and board shuttle under cover. Because the site was somewhat hidden from view it also needed to be an iconic and recognizeable structure while being very low budget.
A simple shed contains the basic functions. The building is entered on the car side through a vestibule with a parapet abstracted from a 1960's Cadillac tail fin. A cantilevered, metal wing provides shelter while embarking or debarking from shuttle. The control tower anchors the entire composition and provides a strong vertical punctuation point visible from public street.
