Hickory Street is a new neighborhood of affordable housing.  It replaces a distressed HUD project from the 1970's whose poor site plan and inadequate integration into the surrounding neighborhood made it a problematic property.  The new site plan reconnects to the neighborhood with a strong streetscape and building designs that reflect local patterns and diversity.

Phase 1 has just been completed; the full streetscape will begin to take shape as PHASE 2 is constructed in 2012 with the central green and community center.  Such extensive urban design where an entire neighborhood is reimagined and rebuilt is rare in Vermont.
