MORE INFOX
GRANGE HILL
2008 Woodstock, VT
A new neighborhood of 36 dwellings in a range of building types and sizes. $7M
Principal: Michael Wisniewski
Grange Hill is an undeveloped 8 acre site and includes a former Grange Hall. The surrounding context is a linear village pattern, mostly residential of many styles and sizes. We observed development concentrated along the valley floor with mixed forest, meadow and small, hidden development on the rising hills. We preserved this pattern by concentrating a dense extension of the village on the flat portion and leaving the sloped meadow and trees largely untouched while the old Grange Hall is redeveloped as three apartments and a common laundry.
The site plan loops around an informal green with a network of pedestrian paths connecting a wide variety of different duplex and triplex designs which reflect architectural massing, variety, styles developed over time and details from the surrounding neighborhood. The variety and detail are unusual for an affordable housing development.
