Mixed Use: Retail/Office, Restaurant, Residential. $4.5M Shell Only
Principal: Bob Duncan and Michael Wisniewski
Create a mixed use private development that feels very public and open. Relate to the urban fabric on one side and the waterfront on the other and, in fact, facilitate connections between the two. Coordinate this work with the other two projects on the site to create a seamless, interconnected development. Utilize sustainable systems and materials.
The curved and angled building concentrates the stream of movement coming from the city and funnels it through the site down to the waterfront through multiple paths including around Union Station. The brick portions relate in scale to the historic fabric and wrap a wood ark that is scaled to the lake. A cylinder collects stormwater and gradually releases it though a filtering garden. We believe that the biggest achievement is that the exterior private spaces feel so public and interwoven with the rest of the public realm.
