MORE INFOX
1993 Franklin, VT
Construction a small family camp. $30 K
Principal: Michael Wisniewski
An act of arson destroyed the historic, 1920's facility that was the focus of the camp; consensus was to rebuild as close as possible to the original form while updating the kitchen. The insurance did not provide enough funding for complete rebuilding and some hard choices had to be made such as eliminating the library and second floor offices. The wrap around porch and grand stair deemed the heart and soul of the original form.
The original form was replicated with a wood stud structure which was then wrapped with the log framed porch and grand stair used for group photos. The porch was extended on entry side to welcome arriving campers a feature the original lacked. With no second story offices the dining hall could now have a high and airy ceiling. The walk out basement provides storage and a room for future growth.
